Grief, Trauma, and Somatic Healing

Say What? Yes, Girl—Child Loss Impacts Everything

I never in a million years could have guessed that grief had the impact it does—but let me tell you, it’s world-rocking. It changes everything: your body, your mind, your nervous system.

To help calm your nervous system, I want to share a few tools with you!

What is Somatic Therapy?

Somatic therapy takes a body-centric approach to healing, helping to relieve stress, tension, grief, and trauma. It’s particularly effective for PTSD and deep emotional pain—things that are all too familiar if you’ve experienced the profound grief of losing a child.

As a mom who lost my 16-year-old son, I know the depth of trauma. I know the feeling of being completely frazzled, like your entire body is in survival mode. These tools have helped me find calmness, relief, and healing, and I hope they can do the same for you.

These tools are also great for anyone navigating trauma or deep stress. You can find them on Amazon. If you have any other suggestions or tools that bring you comfort, let me know—I’d love to add them to the list!

Somatic Therapy Tools

REVIX Heating Pad for Neck & Shoulders

What it does: Provides deep heat therapy for neck and shoulder tension, stress, and anxiety. Think of it as an upgrade from those rice bags—warm, heavy, and instantly soothing.

Red Light Therapy Wrap

What it does: This FDA-cleared infrared wrap delivers deep penetrating light therapy to relieve back pain and stress. Wearable, easy to use at home, and a game changer for tension relief.

Acupressure Mat and Pillow Set

What it does: Targets back and neck pain, improves circulation, and promotes muscle relaxation. You just lay down, breathe, and let those tiny pressure points work their magic.

Cooling & Heating Mattress Pad

What it does: Helps regulate your body temperature while you sleep—because let’s be real, grief can wreck your sleep cycles. This pad keeps things just right.

Exercise Ball

What it does: Whether for yoga, Pilates, therapy, or even as an office chair, this is great for improving stability, balance, and releasing tension stored in the body.

LifePro Waver Vibration Plate

What it does: Uses whole-body vibration to relax muscles, improve circulation, and ease tension. It’s like a massage—without needing an appointment.

Weighted Blanket

What it does: Provides deep pressure stimulation that calms the nervous system. It’s like getting a long, comforting hug all night long.

Blackout Curtains

What it does: Blocks out sunlight and creates a dark, peaceful environment—crucial when grief has messed up your sleep.

Cupping Therapy Set

What it does: Releases muscle tension and promotes relaxation through deep tissue cupping therapy. A must-have if you hold stress in your body.

Additional Resources & Support

There are so many different ways to support your body through grief—dry brushing, oil pulling, salt baths, mindful eating, and parts work (which is an entire conversation in itself). The key is finding what works for you.
